Sedation Dentistry

Put Your Child’s Worries At Ease

At Blooming Smiles, we understand that a large number of children suffer from anxiety when faced with a dental visit. Whether they come to see their local Woodland Hills and Northridge pediatric dentist or for a regular exam, they may not fully understand what is occurring or why, and this can add to their fears. To combat this issue, our doctors offer sedation dentistry. With the help of some simple tools, children can now receive the treatment they need while having a positive experience that will leave them ready and willing to return for regular visits.

Choices For Sedation Dentistry

There are many different types of sedation dentistry offered in the dental industry today. Some of the most common include nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation and IV sedation. Our doctors offer all three of these valuable options so parents can choose the best option for their children.

Nitrous oxide is a clear, odorless gas that is better known as laughing gas. This safe and effective sedation option has been used for decades to help calm patients and relieve their anxiety. Patients are awake and alert through their entire procedure.

Oral conscious sedation offers a little more help for those who struggle during dental procedures. After taking a small dose of a medication, patients get a deep calming feeling or become drowsy. Although they stay conscious through their entire procedure, many children are so relaxed they do not remember receiving treatment at all.

During IV sedation, or general anesthesia, patients are put in a deep sleep by a certified anesthesiologist through direct administering of medication through an IV. This is often necessary when young patients are combative or require extensive dental work.
