Common Problems

Dental alignment issues are surprisingly common and can present functional and esthetic challenges. Thankfully, most can be easily corrected with the help of orthodontic treatments. If you’ve been thinking about visiting your local Woodland Hills and Northridge orthodontists for a consultation, there will never be a better time to take the first steps toward improving your smile!

Alignment Problems We Commonly Treat

underbite.pngWhen the lower jaw juts forward too far, the upper front teeth are forced to sit behind the lower front teeth when the mouth is closed. This is called an underbite.

crossbite.pngThis happens when one or more of the teeth on the upper jaw bite to the inside of one or more of the lower teeth. Patients who have crossbite often have to move their lower jaws unnaturally forward or to the side in order to close their mouths.

 Upper Front Teeth Protrusion

protrusion.pngWhen the upper front teeth extend much too far forward and outward and the lower front teeth do not extend forward enough, it is referred to as upper front teeth protrusion.

overbite.pngThis occurs when the upper front teeth extend too far forward. In some cases, the lower front teeth end up digging into the roof of the mouth in patients with overbite.

crowding.pngWhen there isn’t enough room for all of the teeth in the gums, crowding of the teeth occurs.

spacing.pngSpacing issues are very common, and can cause unsightly gaps between the teeth.

openbite.pngWhen a patient’s upper and lower front teeth do not overlap at all, it is typically due to openbite. Tongue thrusting and difficulty chewing are common side effects of this dental problem.

 Dental Midlines not Matched

We offer a variety of services to combat these problems, including metal braces, ceramic braces and Northridge Invisalign.
